Events-Activities Visit by Dr. Nadir Ahmed (Head & Neck Oncologist from Cooper University Hospital, New Jersey, USA) and his fellow doctors, Dr. Brian Swendseid and Dr. Swar Vimawala – January 2025 The visiting doctors and Rahat Kada doctors exchanged ideas and information on managing patient related matters. The visiting doctors conducted a demonstration on best practices in wound dressing. The visiting doctors also provided training on tracheostomy. The Doctors discussed the challenges of providing comfort and symptom relief in Rahat Kada’s setting.
PRIME is a medical training NGO based out of London, UK. Rahat Kada was visited by Dr. Andy (family medicine specialist), Dr. Gillian (director of a hospice in the UK) and Ms. Marie (senior nurse in palliative care). Visitors exchanged ideas and information with Rahat Kada management and doctors. Visitors gave suggestions for improvement and a strong nursing team.
The installation of 45 kVA solar panels was a direct investment in reducing monthly electricity costs.
The Memorandum of Understanding with Indus was signed for support in specific Clinical Procedures (Treacheostamy Placement, Gastrostomy PEG Tube Placement, Chest X-rays), Interdisciplinary Clinical Teaching and Palleative Nursing Workforce Development.
Rahat Kada leadership toured the Childhood Cancer Center to understand the scope and scale of work being done there. There were discussions about the need for end of life care for children and how the two institutions can collaborate to fulfil that need.
Rahat Kada leadership visited Bait-ul-Sukoon which is a cancer treatment hospital along with hospice facilities. The visit has served as a stepping stone to allow both sides to exchange information and assist one another in referrals, compliance and regulatory challenges.
Khizar Diwan from Rahat Kada visited the Ministry of Narcotics Control in Islamabad. Khizar introduced Rahat Kada and sensitized the Ministry to our need for opioids. Khizar requested the Ministry to expedite Rahat Kada’s application for opioids (including morphine).
